christine avanti shares her healthy beauty tips!

last week, we were on the set of the photoshoot for christine avanti’s new book. christine, a top la nutritionist shared some of her healthy beauty tips while the fabulous viviana martin did her makeup for the shoot.  check out these fun photos of viv and christine, and read below to learn how food can enhance your appearance.


-tired of puffiness under the eyes?  christine says that coconut water is a great option to reduce puffiness.  she also recommends caffeine if you are in a punch.

-want your skin to look better?  add omega 3s to your diet.  foods like salmon, walnuts, and grass fed beef are all great sources of omega 3s.

-what about damaged hair?  we all want healthy looking hair that grows.  according to christine, the vitamin biotin is your best bet for generating results with your hair.

feed your face one application at a time

at stila we like to stay on top of the trends, or even one step ahead of them.  just look at our environmental initiatives - a concern that has been a priority to stila since our beginnings in the 90s.  today eating the right food is just as important as being eco-friendly.  and one of the most trendy and important foods to consume is superfoods.  foods like pomegranates and acai berries (both superfoods) offer substantial health benefits and are receiving raves not only in the health food aisle, but also in other segments.

it looks like stila wasn’t too far off when we began creating our superfood lip and cheek stains – a revolutionary product at the time.  these “crushes” offer users long wearing capabilities in addition to vitamins and antioxidants for their skin.  in a nutshell – it not only looks good, but it’s also good for you allowing you to feed your face one application at a time.

thank you to everyone who entered our halloween makeup contest.  we had so much fun looking at all of your creative looks!  it was extremely difficult to determine a winner.  fortunately, we enlisted the entire office to help us select the results!  check out our favorite submissions and the contest winner below.

the scariest makeup award goes to the wicked witch!  incredible makeup!


best artwork was definitely seen with this spiderweb on the face.  amazing!


the runner up award goes to this dead makeup look.  wow.  she really looks dead!


and the winner is kerri!  she was a peacock.  everyone at stila loved her bright shadow, fun brows, and peacock lashes!  her shadow reminds us of one of our favorite products - peacock smudge stick eyeliner!  congrats kerri.  we hope you enjoy your new stila products.

the color wheel creates everyday magic

this month allure’s editor, linda wells, discuses the concept of everyday magic.  wells makes an interesting comparison to today’s gimmicks out there, saying they are not too different from the placebo effect.  and often, when you buy an expensive tool promising to reduce wrinkles, your mind is possibly more powerful than the tool – just like taking a sugar pill.  hmm.  this idea does somewhat complicate the process of selecting products in a world with limitless options.  however, wells says that many products have legitimate claims and/or medicine. 

if the placebo effect is true in the beauty world, it is no wonder that makeup is a significant confidence booster.  in fact, wells pointed out one study where, “women who wore more makeup were thought to be more self-assured and to have better, more lucrative jobs.”  she described this phenomenon as “everyday magic”.

IMATS toronto is almost here.  we know there are lots of canada beauty junkies and/or makeup professionals out there who love stila, and this event is definitely one that you do not want to miss. the tradeshow lasts for two days – november 6th and 7th. on sunday, november 7th, stila’s very own dominick briguglio will be speaking about our one step collection. check him out on the runway stage at 11:45am. here’s a sneak peak at the looks we are creating for this amazing event.



every look is unique. yet at the same time, each look combines various stila products and focuses intensively on our one step collection (one step correct, one step makeup, and one step prime color).

beautylish’s la day of beauty!

there is honestly nothing more delicious than a saturday filled with cupcakes, acai crush, and a room full of beauty guru’s!  this is exactly what transpired at beautylish’s “la day of beauty”.  stila was fortunate to sponsor this event during which we met some amazing beauty bloggers, youtube reviewers, editors, and, of course, hung out with the fabulous beautylish team. 


highlights from the event include playing with the holiday color wheel, going bold on the lips with acai crush, testing out custom color blush on multiple skin tones, and more.  in particular, we really enjoyed meeting the beautylish team.  their amazing new website brings together much of the innovative content on the web.  interestingly, there is so much knowledge and passion out there.  we are so lucky to live at a time when this information is readily accessible :)

last saturday stila sponsored the environmental media awards.  the environmental media association works to create environmental awareness through film, television, and music.  the awards were held at warner bros. studios.  everyone on the stila team had a great time participating in the festivities.  it was truly an honor to partner with an organization promoting such a great cause. 

at stila we believe in going green and we had a booth on site at the event showcasing some of our green products and packaging.  we found that so many people were appreciative of our environmental initiatives.  and we were able to meet several other companies who had similar goals.  it was a great feeling.  for those that are environmentally conscious, here is some info on some of stila’s amazing eco-friendly products!
  • we produce refillable compacts to support waste reduction
  • several of our products are produced locally with low carbon foot print
  • our kraft packaging is composed of recyclable, unbleached board, high yield material
  • there is a biodegradable additive in our compacts

last night we had the privilege of spending time with la's very own laker girls! the stila team met the girls at their practice facility for an intimate makeup training taught by our very own sarah lucero.  at the training, makeup looks for game days were established to help these laker girls look amazing while they root on their championship team.

a colorful look was created using purple tang smudge stick and the bright purple from the after hours trio.  another look focused on a darker lip using the long wear liquid lip colors.  the custom color blush was also a winning product, providing each girl with the perfect shade of blush.  and, of course, one step makeup was a must-have.  the laker girls love it because this foundation is waterproof and heat resistant.  a formula like this goes a long way when you are cheering for the best team in basketball!
