the color wheel creates everyday magic

this month allure’s editor, linda wells, discuses the concept of everyday magic.  wells makes an interesting comparison to today’s gimmicks out there, saying they are not too different from the placebo effect.  and often, when you buy an expensive tool promising to reduce wrinkles, your mind is possibly more powerful than the tool – just like taking a sugar pill.  hmm.  this idea does somewhat complicate the process of selecting products in a world with limitless options.  however, wells says that many products have legitimate claims and/or medicine. 

if the placebo effect is true in the beauty world, it is no wonder that makeup is a significant confidence booster.  in fact, wells pointed out one study where, “women who wore more makeup were thought to be more self-assured and to have better, more lucrative jobs.”  she described this phenomenon as “everyday magic”.

robert verdi fashion week retreat

stila teamed up with amazing celebrity stylist robert verdi last week for his fashion week retreat event.  this exciting event was a time for VIPs to stop by, get pampered, and escape the fashion week madness.  shoshanna bush, bethany frankel, jay alexander, and nigel barker were among the many that stopped by the event and checked out stila’s latest products including some of our amazing upcoming launches for the holiday season.  we had a variety of stila artists on had to touch up the guests and suggest products to buy!  everyone seemed to be in love with stila's crushes - especially the new one we are launching for holiday.  stay tuned.  acai crush is a must-have in your crush wardrobe! and for all the buzz from this event, check out the fun photos below!

kitten eyeshadow is the perfect compliment to your red lip

if you have visited a sephora recently, you have probably seen their “kiss for a cause” promotion.  this promotion is a three-week initiative functioning to benefit the beauty bus foundation (a non-profit organization in los angeles working to enhance the lives of those that are homebound).  in addition to helping the beauty bus foundation, the kiss for a cause campaign also gives clients an opportunity to select the perfect shade of red lipstick.

whitney port was among the first to give a kiss for the cause.  sephora pro team member jill powell did her makeup for the event.  and what we loved most about the makeup was the eye shadow she paired with whitney’s red lips.  jill used stila’s kitten eye shadow!!!  kitten has been an industry favorite for years and we have no doubt that this color is the perfect compliment to any red lip choice.

as for us at stila, we have our favorite red lip options.  lover long wear lip color is an amazing true red.  fiery long wear liquid lip color is a great deep red.  and for a more pouty red, try layering a few coats of cherry crush!

a night at cc skye’s malibu beach house

a few weeks ago la confidential magazine hosted a party with one of hollywood’s top handbag and jewelry designers, cc skye (pictured on the left).  the event, a night at the malibu beach house, was put on in typical hollywood fashion.  recommended attire was elegant and edgy, with your best accessories – obviously.

do you remember when fergie defined what it means to be glamorous?  If you have forgotten, here’s a quick reminder:

the product dreams are made of

most of us spent our childhoods dreaming – whether you dreamed of being the next pop star, a world cup athlete, or the astronaut that walks on the moon, we all had dreams.  yet somehow for most of us, those dreams disappeared as reality set in and the typical 9 to 5 day job began.  however, at stila we love to still dream, even if we are dreaming about what lip glaze to wear to tomorrow’s party!  for this reason, we are particularly thrilled about the release of our new product, one step correct.  it is truly a product that dreams are made of – literally and figuratively.

sam cutler, our product development manager, created this product as a result of a dream!  while sleeping she envisioned talking with a male vendor who had a very red face.  he told her that he applied powder with lavender, green, and peach to reduce the redness and even out his skin tone.  after talking to this man, inspiration was sparked.  sam saw in her dream the three colors being used in a new technology known as “swirl technology”.    and when she woke up the next morning, the first thing she did was call the lab to discuss the possibility of making her dream a reality.  it took a little time to develop, but today this new product is available for all!
