meet stila star francesca!  she’s a city girl who was born and raised in chicago.  francesca is passionate about life and all things stila.  when she first discovered stila nearly 15 years ago she says, “it felt like home”. today she balances family life with her career.  as the stila account executive over chicago, francesca has a lot of insight about fashion, the city, and keeping up with a fast-paced lifestyle.  we asked her about it and how it affects her and her makeup routine.

what do you love about the city?
chicago is so clean.  it is full of friendly, beautiful people.  plus, it has great food, a great night life, and amazing shopping.

do you feel pressure to look perfect everyday in the city – sort of live the carrie bradshaw lifestyle?
not really.  growing up in the makeup industry helped me keep up on the trends.  and i love the classic look with a trendy edge.

does the fast-paced lifestyle of the city transfer into your makeup routine?
yes.  the city makes life fast and i’m also a mom which makes my makeup routine 8 minutes tops.

how are fashions changing in the city now that summer is over?
it only gets better from here.  the boots and scarves are starting to come out.  also, there are great fall colors like plum, greens, and orange.  they seem to be lighting up the streets of chicago.

is your makeup affected by the season change?
not really.  my skin might need a little more moisture with the cold weather, but my makeup always stays the same.  i might throw on a deeper lipstick J

regardless of location, what is one makeup tip every woman can implement in her routine?
never follow the shape of your eye when lining.  always stop your eyeliner about 3 lashes to the end and pick up the liner a little into a small cat eye.  this creates a lift in the eye making it more youthful.

is there one stila product you can’t live without?
OMG!!! yes.  there are a couple.  illuminating powder foundation is the best product ever made and i have worn it every day for the last 12 years.  also, convertible color in petunia and gladiola are close seconds!

pro artist tip of the week - halloween makeup

stila fans!  halloween is almost here.  have you determined what makeup you will be wearing on this fun day?  it's the one day where going extreme is completely acceptable.  try something you love but might be afraid of.  or go all out with your favorite product so it really shines.  here are our favorite products for halloween.

sparkle waterproof liquid eyeliner.  looking for colorful eyes that shine?  try these amazing eyeliners.  bora bora and electric are fun colors for a lot of pop.  and if you want you can blend them on your eyelid for more drama.

black smudge pot. need black makeup that will not budge.  black smudge pot can do anything.  we even use it on the lips!  this versatile product is a must-have during halloween.

long wear liquid lip color.  bold lips will enhance most costumes.  colors like caprice and fiery will set you apart from the rest.  and your lips will look amazing all night :)

stila spends the day with living beauties

last sunday stila spent the day with the foundation for living beauty, an organization that supports cancer survivors.  our very own living beauty, sarah lucero, hosted this event.  during the day, each living beauty was pampered by our stila pro artists.  they also received a blowout from the prive hair team.  then special portraits were taken.  we loved celebrating each and every living beauty and their amazing beauty inside and out.  here are some fun photos of the living beauties and our pro artists.

there are some stila products that i absolutely adore and feel the need to discuss!

collectible palettes: i have a mild obsession with collecting these. i feel the need to get each one. i have at least 10-12 of them now! i love them for several reasons: they all have different designs on the front, they open like little books, they look great stacked, they include 4 eyeshadows and a convertible color or two blushes inside, they have a little mirror and instruction guide inside, and they are all different. most of all, i love that the price! 

sparkle waterproof liquid eye liner: l love the colors they come in! they are so saturated and really make your eyes stand out. i especially am in love with the shades bora bora, rock candy, electric and flash. they really do last all day long and they're a great way to have a pop of sparkle on your eyes without looking like a disco ball.

long wear liquid lip color: i think these are some of the coolest lip products out there! they seem like a gloss because of the packaging and how they apply, but they are thick and SO extremely opaque like a lipstick. they feel soft and velvety then "set" and do not come off or budge. a tiny little bit goes a very long way! i have extremely dry lips and always worry about matte lip products. but while these are matte and do feel dry to the touch, they aren't drying on my lips. i haven't come across any other lip products that act like these do and i really hope they come out with more colors soon (hint, hint)!

stila smudge pots: my first ever experience with these was with the holiday 2009 collection which included the shades kitten, starry night, violet and black. i was totally impressed by these then and still am now. these are so creamy and smooth and easy to apply. the black is so deep and dark and lasts all day with no fading. speaking of these I think I need to pick up cobalt and black cat...

pro artist tip of the week – coat like a pro

mascara is a must-have product for all women.  whether you are a natural beauty or a glamour girl, mascara will do wonders for your look.  and many times how you use it makes all of the difference.  in fact, when it comes to mascara, sometimes you just have to go for it!!!  here are some helpful tips.

-wiggle the brush at your lash line to really coat the lashes.  this also helps your lashes to look more separated.

-layer, layer, layer.  if you want your lashes to look amazing, you might need to apply a few coats.

-use the point of the brush to help separate the lashes and add length. 

-select the mascara that works for you.  certain brushes might work better for you.  keep this in mind.  also, choose a formula that offers what you are looking for – length, volume, or curl.  it’s ok to have a preference J

hi beauties! my name is lara and  write the glossarie. i have a full on obsession with pretty that was sparked solely by stila. my love affair began with the baked cheek duo in pink glow and grew to include rare and hard-to-find lip glaze shades like raisin, lemongrass, sugar plum and red apple.

a couple of years ago, i discovered kitten and it still remains my everyday eye shadow.  i also fell hard for custom color blush, which gives my fair cheeks the most perfect pink pop. i swear by this blush and recommend it to friends and strangers left and right!



my stila fate was sealed when i had the opportunity to cover beauty backstage at NYFW this february and interviewed sarah lucero at lela rose. she inspired me to try a bold merlot lip using smudge pot and had me on pins and needles awaiting the launch of forever your curl.

stila still has a permanent spot in my heart and makeup bag with my latest find, brighten & correct concealer. it’s like a nap in a tube – i keep it in my purse and swipe it on before running into an event or buying appointment. i love that it goes on smoothly and is super easy to pat and blend. from baked cheek duo to brighten & correct, this brand can do no wrong. i’d love to hear your oldest and newest stila loves!

pro artist tip of the week - party makeup!

holiday season is just around the corner, which means parties galore!  with all of the celebrating you have in store, we want to be sure you look and feel your best.  here are a few tips to make the most of your party makeup.

-take your makeup up a level for the party you are attending.  try darkening your eye shadow or wearing a bolder lip color. 

-use long wearing products when you are going to a party.  this way you can focus on the party and forget the touchup!

-wear a foundation that suits the party’s environment.  the type of party can affect your skin.  if it’s an outdoor event, you might prefer a foundation that is long wearing like perfect & correct.  if it’s fancy and you want your skin to glow, you might consider illuminating liquid foundation.

-add some shimmer.  kitten all over shimmer is the perfect finishing touch to any party makeup look.  it’s subtle and effective. 

-apply one more coat of mascara, just because.  we love mascara and you’re going to a party so coat away!
